Apple’s AI AirPods with cameras near production

▼ Summary

– Apple’s rumored AirPods with cameras are entering the design validation test stage, with prototypes being actively used by testers.
– The cameras are low-resolution and not for taking photos or video, but for capturing visual information for Siri queries.
– Users could ask Siri about ingredients in front of them to get cooking suggestions based on the visual data.
– This stage is one step before the production validation test, indicating progress toward potential mass production.

Apple’s long-rumored camera-equipped AirPods are reportedly closing in on an early production test phase, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. Engineers and testers are currently “actively using” prototypes that have reached the design validation testing (DVT) stage, a critical milestone that comes just one step before the production validation test (PVT) phase.

These next-generation AirPods won’t be used for taking photos or recording video. Instead, the tiny cameras are designed to capture low-resolution visual information that can be processed by Siri. For example, a user could point the AirPods at a counter full of ingredients and ask the AI assistant what they might cook with what’s available. The technology could also support features like turn-by-turn navigation cues or other context-aware interactions.

While the company has not officially confirmed the project, the move to advanced testing signals a significant push to integrate AI-powered spatial awareness into everyday wearable devices. If mass production proceeds smoothly, these AirPods could represent a new category of intelligent audio accessories that see and interpret the world around the user, not just hear it.
