Pixel Watch 5 found in ocean, police investigate

▼ Summary
– A Pixel Watch 5 was reportedly found underwater by a friend of Gearbox founder Randy Pitchford while scuba diving near St. Martin.
– Two images of the alleged Pixel Watch 5 (45mm) were posted on Twitter/X, showing “Pixel Watch 5” printed on the bottom.
– The images appear authentic, with no obvious red flags and Pitchford’s reflection adding credibility.
– The watch’s design looks identical to previous models, and its battery is dead, so no software changes are visible.
– Pixel Watch 5 is expected to launch later this year, with the main anticipated upgrade being Snapdragon Wear Elite and Gemini Intelligence.
A prototype device turning up in an unlikely location is hardly new, but finding one at the bottom of the ocean is a first. A potential Pixel Watch 5 has surfaced in a most unexpected way, and the discovery has already prompted questions about how it got there.
Randy Pitchford, the founder of Gearbox Software (best known for the Borderlands series), posted two hands-on images of the alleged 45mm Pixel Watch 5 on Twitter/X. According to Pitchford, the smartwatch was recovered from the sea floor by a friend who was “scuba diving near the island of St. Martin.” The bottom of the device clearly reads “Pixel Watch 5.”
The images themselves show no obvious signs of tampering, and Pitchford’s own reflection in the photo lends credibility to the claim. It would be an unusual move for him to post an edited or fabricated image.
In terms of design, this prototype looks nearly identical to the current generation. With the battery apparently dead, there is no way to examine the software. That it works at all after being submerged in saltwater is remarkable. Pitchford notes that the watch still displays the correct time in its low-power state.
The Pixel Watch 5 is expected to launch later this year, though no official design changes have been confirmed yet. The biggest anticipated upgrade is the Snapdragon Wear Elite chipset. Google has teased that this platform “opens new possibilities, delivering the performance, battery life and connectivity essential for the next generation of Wear OS,” which many believe points to deeper Gemini Intelligence integration.
