The United States has officially lifted export restrictions on Anthropic’s latest artificial intelligence models, Claude Fable 5 and Claude Mythos 5, roughly three weeks after the Trump administration flagged them as potential national security threats.
As of today, Anthropic announced in a blog post that Fable 5 is now available worldwide, while U. S. organizations have regained access to Mythos 5 since June 26. The company is currently collaborating with the government to extend Mythos access to a “broader set of domestic and international partners in the Glasswing program,” a cybersecurity initiative that grants vetted researchers at trusted firms access to the model for defensive purposes.
In a letter obtained by Reuters and The New York Times, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick informed Anthropic that it would “no longer need a license for exports or in-country transfers of its Claude Mythos and Claude Fable AI models.” The letter recognized that Anthropic had “taken steps in close coordination with the US government to address the risks” associated with the models.
To address the longer-than-expected delay in releasing its models, Lutnick noted that Anthropic had agreed to deepen its partnership with the government. The company also established a program that invites hackers to red-team its models and has created a dedicated internal team that monitors reports of emerging jailbreak threats around the clock.
In the same letter, Lutnick cautioned that the U. S. “reserves the right to re-evaluate the decisions” and could reimpose export restrictions at any time. For now, however, Lutnick joined White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles in celebrating Fable 5’s redeployment on X.
“Over the past two weeks, we have worked closely with Anthropic to analyze and approve Fable 5 to ensure alignment across the US Government and strengthen America’s leadership in AI,” Lutnick said.
Wiles did not mention Anthropic directly but framed the development as a victory for the Trump administration. “The government and private sector have worked together in a way we have never seen before and this foundation of America First is unprecedented,” she wrote. “Our shared priority remains: get the best tech deployed as quickly and safely as possible.”
