Ikea’s latest smart home devices, built on the Matter-over-Thread standard, have arrived in the United States ahead of schedule. Originally slated for a 2026 launch, a selection of these new sensors and remotes are now available for purchase online and in select physical stores, marking a significant early step in the company’s smart home expansion. This move brings affordable, interoperable smart home technology to a broader audience much sooner than anticipated.

The rollout includes four of the five smart sensors announced late last year. The Myggspray indoor/outdoor wireless motion sensor, priced at $9.99, can trigger lights when movement is detected. For home safety, the Klippbok water sensor also costs $9.99 and is designed to be placed under appliances to detect leaks, sending alerts via notifications and an audible alarm. The Myggbett door and window sensor is the most affordable at $7.99, activating lights or notifications when opened or closed. The most advanced sensor in this initial wave is the Alpstuga air quality monitor. At $29.99, it measures CO2 levels and airborne PM2.5 particles, providing valuable data on indoor air health.

Notably, the new lighting products, including the simplified Kajplats smart bulb collection, are not part of this early release. Customers looking to overhaul their home lighting with Ikea’s latest will need to wait for a future launch.

Alongside the sensors, Ikea’s US website has listed the new Bilresa remote. The colorful three-pack of the two-button version is priced at $19.99, offering a stylish way to control compatible smart devices. However, availability is currently limited, with the product shown as sold out online and unavailable in retail stores. This suggests high initial demand or a phased inventory rollout.

This early availability provides American consumers with a cost-effective entry point into the Matter ecosystem. The pricing strategy keeps these essential sensors under $30, with most under $10, making smart home automation more accessible. The use of the Matter and Thread protocols ensures these devices should work seamlessly with other certified products from brands like Apple, Google, Amazon, and Samsung, promoting a more unified and reliable smart home experience without being locked into a single brand’s ecosystem.
