Nintendo has confirmed it will raise the price of the Switch 2 in Japan, the United States, Canada, and Europe, with the original Switch also seeing a hike in Japan. The move, disclosed alongside the company’s latest financial report, was attributed to shifting market conditions and a reassessment of the global economic outlook.
“We sincerely apologise for the impact these price revisions may have on our customers and other stakeholders, and we deeply appreciate your understanding,” the company stated. Nintendo added that further regional adjustments would be announced by its overseas subsidiaries.
In Japan, the price changes take effect on May 25, 2026. The Switch 2 Japanese-language system will jump from ¥49,980 to ¥59,980, while the Switch OLED Model rises from ¥37,980 to ¥47,980. The standard Nintendo Switch goes from ¥32,978 to ¥43,980, and the Switch Lite from ¥21,978 to ¥29,980. Notably, the multilanguage version of the Switch 2 sold through the My Nintendo Store will not change in price.
For the US, Canada, and Europe, the Switch 2 price increases begin on September 1, 2026. In the US, the console will move from $449.99 to $499.99. Canadian pricing shifts from $629.99 to $679.99, and European buyers will see the price rise from €469.99 to €499.99. All listed prices exclude tax.
Nintendo also announced a hike for its Nintendo Switch Online subscription service in Japan, effective July 1, 2026. The individual 12-month plan goes from ¥2,400 to ¥3,000, while the family 12-month plan rises from ¥4,500 to ¥5,800. For the Expansion Pack, the individual 12-month membership increases from ¥4,900 to ¥5,900, and the family plan from ¥8,900 to ¥9,900. Price revisions for South Korea will be shared later.
Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa had previously signaled that the company was open to future price adjustments due to persistent shortages of memory components. “Any decision to change the price will be determined comprehensively, taking into consideration not only profitability, but also other factors like the platform’s installed base, sales trends, and the market environment,” he said. He added that if memory costs remain elevated, it could eventually pressure hardware profitability, requiring a careful evaluation of all variables.
