The Commerce Department’s Center for AI Standards and Innovation (CAISI) announced Tuesday that it will conduct pre-deployment evaluations and targeted research to better assess frontier AI capabilities.

CAISI, which began evaluating models from OpenAI and Anthropic in 2024, has completed 40 reviews to date. Both companies have renegotiated their existing partnerships with the center to align with priorities under the Trump administration.
