A new set of smart string lights designed for permanent outdoor installation is now available from Govee. The Outdoor Chromatic String Lights are built to withstand the elements while offering vibrant, customizable illumination for patios, gardens, and other exterior spaces. They are sold in two configurations: a 32-foot strand with 10 bulbs for $169.99 and a more expansive 65-foot version with 20 bulbs priced at $299.99. Both options are available for purchase directly from Govee and through Amazon.
Every bulb on the strand is engineered for durability and performance outdoors. It carries an IP67 weather rating, ensuring it is fully protected against dust and can withstand temporary immersion in water, making it suitable for heavy rain. The construction includes a dual-layer shell that serves two purposes: it provides a robust barrier against the elements and physical damage while also acting as a diffuser to soften the light output for a more pleasing glow.
The lighting technology inside each bulb is sophisticated. For color, a cluster of 55 RGB LEDs can produce millions of hues. These LEDs can be set to a single solid color or programmed to create dynamic, multi-color gradients with smooth, independent animations on every bulb. When bright, functional white light is needed, each bulb also contains 54 dedicated white LEDs. This separate white LED array can produce up to 240 lumens of neutral white illumination, effectively lighting a backyard for gatherings or everyday use.
All customization is managed through the Govee Home app. Users can select colors, create lighting scenes, and choose from various dynamic effects. The lights also feature 12 music-reactive modes that sync the light show to ambient sound. Beyond the proprietary app, these lights support broader smart home ecosystems. They are Matter-compatible, allowing for integration into a unified smart home standard. Additionally, they work directly with Amazon Alexa and Google Home platforms, enabling control through simple voice commands alongside other connected devices.
