GameSpot Hit by New Wave of Layoffs

Another wave of layoffs has struck GameSpot, marking the fifth round of job cuts since Fandom acquired the company. The affected areas include the outlet’s entire commerce team and a senior executive.

On Thursday, Fandom eliminated GameSpot’s commerce division, a team of four staffers and five freelancers, who were responsible for deals posts, buying guides, preorder content, and occasional other topics. The cuts also included Chris Grant, the vice president of games and entertainment. Grant joined Fandom in September 2025 to oversee GameSpot, along with other properties such as Metacritic, GameFAQs, and TV Guide. He previously co-founded Polygon before Vox Media sold that site to Valnet in May 2025.

One affected employee shared a particularly harrowing experience. “I just got laid off from GameSpot while on paid medical leave recovering from a gunshot wound,” wrote deals editor Brendan Hesse on Bluesky. Hesse had been on leave since July 1 after being injured in gunfire near his home. Commerce editor Colette Bennett also confirmed her dismissal, posting that she was let go “along with the rest of my commerce team” and expressing disappointment that her short tenure at the company ended so abruptly. Writer Jaina Rodríguez-Grey wrote on LinkedIn that “My entire team at Gamespot has been fired.”

Fandom did not respond to a request for comment in time for publication.
