Privacy will take center stage when Apple unveils its revamped Siri at the Worldwide Developers Conference this June, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. The Siri relaunch is widely viewed as Apple’s critical opportunity to reclaim relevance in the artificial intelligence space. Company executives plan to argue that they are adopting a more privacy-conscious approach than most competitors in the AI industry, Gurman reported.

Apple is expected to debut its first standalone Siri app, powered by Google Gemini and designed to offer a chatbot experience similar to ChatGPT. However, unlike those rival chatbots, Apple’s version will reportedly impose stricter limits on how long user data can be used and stored. For instance, Gurman noted that Siri may include a feature akin to the Messages app, allowing users to automatically delete conversations after 30 days, one year, or keep them indefinitely.

Gurman also suggested that Apple’s heavy emphasis on privacy could serve as a way to downplay Siri’s shortcomings compared to competing products. This focus might also obscure the fact that Google is handling some of the underlying security responsibilities.
