A federal judge has granted preliminary approval for a $7.85 million settlement in a class action lawsuit against Sony, opening the door for PlayStation refunds tied to certain digital game purchases made through the PlayStation Network (PSN).

The settlement stems from the Caccuri, et al. v. Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC case, filed in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California. The lawsuit alleged that Sony violated federal antitrust law and multiple state statutes by eliminating competition and monopolizing the market for digital PlayStation games, which allegedly led to inflated prices for consumers. Saveri Law Firm, LLP announced the judge’s preliminary approval of the payout.

According to the official PSN Digital Games Settlement website, eligible consumers are those who purchased a digital game through the PlayStation Store between April 1, 2019, and December 31, 2023, where that same title was previously available as a physical, game-specific voucher at retail. If you fit that description and still have an active PSN account, you are automatically enrolled in the settlement class.

Compensation will be delivered as cash-value PlayStation Network account credits, as detailed in the settlement filing dated April 8, 2026. For those who qualify but have since deactivated their PSN accounts, the settlement website instructs them to contact a dedicated phone number or send qualifying details by mail to receive compensation of equal value.

The list of eligible titles includes over 100 games. Notable entries range from major first-party releases like God of War Collection, Killzone Shadow Fall, Until Dawn, and The Last of Us to third-party hits such as NBA 2K18, Star Wars Battlefront, Destiny: The Collection, and The Jackbox Party Pack. A full list is available on the settlement website.

This payout comes on the heels of recent controversy surrounding Sony. Players had raised concerns after spotting what appeared to be a new DRM timer tied to online purchases. After initial speculation that the checks were only temporary, Sony issued a statement reassuring fans and calming the uproar.
