Apple plans six major new product categories, says Gurman

Apple introduces fresh iPhone models on an annual basis, but venturing into entirely new product categories is a much less frequent occurrence. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who recently spoke with TBPN, the tech giant is currently developing six major new product categories. Here is the complete rundown of what’s reportedly in the pipeline.

During his TBPN appearance, Gurman discussed Apple’s forthcoming CEO transition, the anticipated direction under John Ternus, and other key topics. He specifically noted, “There are six major Apple products in development right now, six major new product categories.”

The full list includes: AI AirPods, Smart glasses, a Pendant, a Smart display, a Tabletop robot, and a Security camera.

While some might argue that AI AirPods don’t represent a truly new category since they remain a variation of the existing AirPods line, the other five entries mark entirely uncharted territory for Apple.

Apple Glasses are rumored to be unveiled either later this year or in early 2027, though actual shipments are not expected until 2027. The Pendant, which Gurman has previously described as an AI wearable, serves as an alternative to both AI AirPods and the Glasses. All three devices are expected to rely heavily on a paired iPhone for Siri and other AI-driven functions.

On the smart home front, the Smart display (often called the ‘HomePad’), Tabletop robot, and Security camera represent completely new Home product lines. The HomePad is reportedly slated for a fall launch, possibly alongside the iPhone 18 event. The tabletop robot is currently scheduled for 2027, though Gurman recently suggested it could slip to 2028. The security camera is expected to debut later this year.
