But the bigger question for many users is simple: which states are next? Based on official confirmations, Apple’s own partner announcements, and code references, seven states have signaled that they are actively working on integrating the feature. Those states are:
A broader look at the Secure Technology Alliance data reveals additional states that have begun exploring mobile ID support through legislation or feasibility studies, even though Apple has not publicly referenced them. That list includes Indiana, Vermont, New Jersey, Florida, South Carolina, Tennessee, Missouri, Nevada, and Wyoming.
It is worth keeping expectations in check, though. The pace of progress varies wildly across the country. A state exploring or even developing digital ID infrastructure is no guarantee that it will ever go live, let alone appear inside Apple Wallet.
The current situation is undeniably fragmented. Support for digital IDs in Apple Wallet has arrived in fits and starts, with no uniform timeline or clear pattern across the U. S.
That said, you do not have to wait for your state to catch up if you want to experience the convenience of a digital ID at the airport. Apple introduced a separate Digital ID feature last year that works with your U. S. passport.
