Sunrun plans to aggregate and sell the computing capacity from these residential nodes to enterprise compute buyers, including AI firms. This approach represents a novel solution to a growing problem: finding suitable locations and resources for AI infrastructure. Public opposition to new data centers is fierce. A May survey found that more than 70 percent of Americans resist data center construction in their neighborhoods, citing concerns over pollution, noise, and heavy demands on water and electricity grids.
