The upcoming Borderlands 4 DLC was officially announced at the Tokyo Game Show, introducing a new playable character named C4SH and a story expansion titled Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned. Both additions are scheduled to launch in the first quarter of 2026, bringing fresh content to the popular looter-shooter franchise.

C4SH made their debut during a special Borderlands 4 panel through a brief cinematic trailer. Described as a former casino dealer robot, this unique vault hunter incorporates elements of chance across all three skill trees. While a comprehensive breakdown of C4SH’s abilities is promised for later, developers have not yet confirmed when that detailed information will become available.

The accompanying story pack, Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned, promises substantial new content for players. This expansion will feature additional main story missions to complete, brand-new equipment to collect, an entirely new region to explore, and numerous cosmetic items. C4SH will serve as the central character tying all these elements together within the expansion’s narrative.

Despite these exciting future announcements, Borderlands 4 continues to face significant technical challenges on current platforms. Although a recent update has partially addressed performance problems, it has introduced new stability issues. Gearbox has specifically advised PC players experiencing instability to clear their shader cache if problems persist beyond the first fifteen minutes of gameplay.

The technical difficulties extend beyond PC performance, with the Nintendo Switch 2 version now delayed indefinitely. Developers cited the need for “additional development and polish time” as the reason for postponing this port. Following the game’s rocky launch, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford notably suggested that dissatisfied customers consider refunding their purchase if they were unhappy with the game’s performance.

For those able to run the game smoothly, Borderlands 4 has received generally positive feedback from players. Eurogamer’s assessment noted that “Borderlands 4 brings a more sensible script and a true open world to its pseudo-cel-shaded gun-show. But these moderate improvements are undermined by frustrating exploration and combat that takes too long to properly shine,” indicating that while the game shows promise, it still has areas needing refinement.
