In June 2025, Google unexpectedly ended a long period of silence by pushing out a major update for Snapseed. After confirming earlier this year that the app would no longer be exclusive to iOS, the Snapseed 4.0 update is now rolling out to Android users.
As of today, the Google Play Store listing reflects the new version 4.0. While iOS has been running version 3.0 since last year, both platforms are now receiving a redesigned interface with this release. Updated assets on Google Play offer a first look at the new layout.
One key addition is the Snapseed Camera, which lets you “capture using custom styles or film looks.” This feature provides real-time effects that can be edited or reset after the shot is taken.
The Android redesign begins with a new homepage grid that displays your recent edits. To start working on a new photo, tap the “Add Photo” button at the bottom to open your device’s file picker.
Within the editor, the interface is organized into three bottom tabs: Looks, Tools, and Export. The Tools tab is further divided into subcategories: Refine, Fix, Style, and All.
As before, you can adjust values by dragging left or right, and swipe up or down to access different options within a tool. In the top-right corner, you can quickly toggle between dark and light themes or enable the histogram.
The Snapseed Camera is launched from a floating action button on the homepage. Its viewfinder has a skeuomorphic design and includes a “Pro” mode for controlling ISO, Shutter Speed, and Focus.
Beyond applying your own saved looks, the camera offers real-time film emulation with these styles:
