A new strategic partnership between satellite IoT provider Sateliot and Spanish technology firm Datakorum is set to significantly advance 5G IoT connectivity for critical infrastructure throughout the United Arab Emirates. This collaboration focuses specifically on deploying non-terrestrial 5G networks to enhance smart metering and remote monitoring systems for the nation’s vital oil, gas, and water pipeline networks.

The core of the initiative involves utilizing Sateliot’s 5G NB-IoT satellite constellation to link Datakorum’s specialized devices and platforms in isolated or difficult-to-reach locations. A proof-of-concept project is currently underway to validate smooth, uninterrupted handovers between conventional ground-based 5G and satellite-based non-terrestrial networks. Achieving this seamless transition is fundamental for guaranteeing stable and dependable data transmission in zones where standard cellular coverage is weak or unavailable.

Market analysis identifies the UAE as a highly promising territory for 5G IoT expansion, with forecasts suggesting the service market could be worth $1.7 billion by the year 2030. This alliance intends to showcase how satellite-augmented IoT solutions can effectively bridge coverage voids, providing industries such as energy, water resource management, and intelligent infrastructure with access to continuous, real-time operational data.

For Datakorum, merging satellite and terrestrial systems will fortify its connectivity-as-a-service portfolio. This enhancement allows client organizations to realize substantial improvements in operational productivity and system durability, even in the most demanding environments.

Gianluca Redolfi, Chief Commercial Officer of Sateliot, remarked, “Our joint efforts are expanding the possibilities of IoT technology. The UAE stands as a crucial strategic market for us, and this partnership clearly illustrates how our solutions create meaningful, practical benefits.”

Rafael Martinez, R&D Director at Datakorum, emphasized that non-terrestrial 5G connectivity will play a vital role in removing existing communication dead zones. He stated this technology is key to speeding up the pace of digital transformation across the entire region.
