The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has announced a recall affecting 14,575 Tesla Model Y vehicles, but this time the fix won’t come through a simple over-the-air software update. The issue stems from a missing weight certification sticker, a physical label that Tesla’s usual remote repair methods cannot address.

According to the official recall report, the affected Model Ys were manufactured between November 17, 2024 and April 21, 2026 at Tesla’s factory in Fremont, California. The missing sticker is the result of a malfunction with an automated vision-scanning tool used during production, which failed to properly apply the label.

Typically, this sticker is placed on the inside of the driver’s side door and displays critical information, including the vehicle’s maximum safe loaded weight, tire specifications, and the manufacture date. While some drivers might overlook a missing label, federal regulations require it for compliance and safety documentation. Tesla will need to physically inspect and install the missing stickers at service centers, marking a departure from the company’s typical reliance on digital patches.
