Microsoft is set to launch local data processing for Microsoft 365 Copilot in the United Arab Emirates starting early 2026, a move designed to support the country’s digital sovereignty and AI ambitions. The service will be hosted in Microsoft’s advanced cloud data centers located in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, offering qualified UAE organizations enhanced data security, regulatory alignment, and improved performance.

This strategic investment underscores Microsoft’s alignment with the UAE’s National Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2031 and the Dubai Universal Blueprint for AI. By keeping data within national borders, the initiative supports the government’s focus on responsible AI deployment and cybersecurity. His Excellency Omar Sultan Al Olama, UAE Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, emphasized that the partnership enables government bodies to adopt AI confidently, knowing their data remains protected domestically.

The Head of Cybersecurity for the UAE Government, H.E. Dr. Mohamed Al Kuwaiti, praised Microsoft’s commitment to secure and resilient AI infrastructure. He noted that this collaboration strengthens the nation’s cyber resilience and supports a trusted digital ecosystem where innovation and security advance together.

Local data processing significantly reduces latency, leading to faster response times and a smoother user experience for Microsoft 365 Copilot. All interaction data will be stored and processed within the UAE under normal operations, ensuring compliance with the UAE Cybersecurity Council’s AI Policy and local data governance standards.

G42 International, a key strategic partner, expressed pride in supporting this initiative. According to H.E. Mansoor Al Mansoori, CEO of G42 International, the move will accelerate secure AI adoption across government entities while maintaining high standards for data integrity and regulatory adherence.

Developed in close coordination with the Cybersecurity Council and the Digital Excellence Steering Committee, this deployment includes tailored controls for regulated organizations. It aligns with national requirements for data protection and responsible AI, reinforcing a unified approach to secure digital transformation.

Amr Kamel, General Manager of Microsoft UAE, described the announcement as a pivotal step in the company’s partnership with the UAE. He highlighted that enabling in-country Copilot processing not only speeds up AI integration in the public sector but also ensures data stays within the UAE, supporting the nation’s broader digital goals.

Beyond infrastructure, Microsoft’s cloud ecosystem is projected to generate over 152,000 new jobs in the region. Complementing this, the company has pledged to equip one million UAE learners with AI skills by 2027, reinforcing its role as a trusted enabler of the UAE’s ongoing digital transformation.
