X’s head of product, Nikita Bier, is stepping back from his leadership role, announcing he will transition into an advisory position. In his own words, “it’s time to pass the torch and demote myself to my natural state: a poster.” The announcement arrives just over a month after he marked his one-year anniversary in the role, and only weeks after Elon Musk’s combined SpaceX, X, and xAI entities went public.

Bier claims that during his tenure, “almost every aspect of X” underwent a rebuild, spanning the timeline, the Android app, chat functionality, and notifications. Looking ahead, he named Benji Taylor as the new design lead, with Jonah Katz continuing as iOS lead and Mridul Singhai taking charge of the product team.

He also highlighted the launch of X Money, a feature that had faced repeated delays and was initially expected by Musk to debut before the end of 2024. Under Bier’s watch, the platform doubled down on rewarding native posts and enforcing login requirements for feature access. Just last month, he remarked that gaps in X’s algorithm data had turned the platform into a “battleground.”

Bier’s background includes co-founding the social apps tbh, which Meta acquired, and Gas, which Discord bought. He stepped into the product chief role only days before former X CEO Linda Yaccarino exited, and he has since served as one of the company’s most visible figures.
