Meta is doubling down on artificial intelligence, and according to CEO Mark Zuckerberg, the company is preparing a major push into personal AI agents designed to handle tasks on behalf of users. During the Q2 2026 earnings call on Wednesday, Zuckerberg laid out a broad vision for how the company plans to make these agents accessible and useful to a mainstream audience.
“Soon we will have agents that can work 24/7 on your behalf to help you achieve your goals and improve your life, your health, your relationships, your finances, whatever you want,” Zuckerberg said on the call. He acknowledged that while coding has been the first domain where agents have gained traction, that success is largely driven by engineers who are willing to invest time in making them work. To reach a broader user base, he emphasized that personal agents must function as a great consumer product that works seamlessly out of the box.
This positioning appears to differentiate Meta from rivals like Anthropic and OpenAI, which have focused heavily on agents for coding and enterprise workflows. Google has also entered the space with its Gemini Spark tool, which I found impressively capable but unsettlingly personal. It remains unclear how Meta’s agents will stack up against these offerings.
Still, Meta faces significant hurdles in the personal agent arena. Its AI efforts still trail behind the leading labs. Unlike Google or Microsoft, Meta lacks direct access to users’ emails or documents, limiting its ecosystem reach. The company is also navigating a separate creep factor with its smart glasses, and a general distrust of Meta could discourage users from adopting its agents.
Zuckerberg promised more details “soon” about the company’s personal agent strategy. Earlier in the call, he described personal agents as “the foundation for our next wave of products and revenue lines in the months and years ahead.”
He also highlighted Meta’s business agents, which are already available on WhatsApp and Messenger. More than 1 million businesses are using them weekly, and the rollout is expanding to Instagram.
In a separate update from the earnings call, Zuckerberg announced that Instagram now has over 2 billion daily active users.
