Google’s agentic AI assistant, Gemini Spark, is now rolling out on Mac, marking a significant step in the company’s push to bring intelligent, task-oriented digital help to desktop users.

The company confirmed Wednesday that Spark is being integrated into the existing Gemini desktop app alongside a wave of updates and new capabilities. These include real-time topic monitoring, deeper integration with Google Tasks and Google Keep, and the ability to connect to a growing list of third-party services.

With its macOS debut, Gemini Spark is now better positioned to compete with desktop-based AI agents such as Claude Desktop, Microsoft Copilot, and OpenClaw. It will be able to interact directly with files stored on the computer and, in the near future, handle remote tasks as well.

Although the remote task feature isn’t available at launch, Google has indicated that users will “soon” be able to assign complex, multi-step tasks to Spark from their phones. That could include instructing the desktop agent to retrieve specific information from a file on a Mac.

For now, Spark can help sort and organize files or use local documents as the foundation for a new Google Workspace file. Google suggests, for example, that Spark could turn invoices stored on your computer into a budgeting spreadsheet.

Gemini Spark for macOS is currently in beta and available only to Google AI Ultra subscribers in the United States.

When Spark first launched last month, one of the most notable gaps was the lack of integration with Google Keep, the company’s notes app. During early testing, that omission felt especially frustrating, since short lists and quick notes belong in a lightweight tool like Keep rather than in a full-blown document in Google Docs. Clearly, Google heard the feedback. The company has now added support for both Google Tasks and Google Keep, and Spark also connects with third-party apps including Canva, Dropbox, Instacart, OpenTable, and Zillow Rentals.

That expanded integration lets Spark handle a wide range of real-world tasks, from reserving a table for dinner to ordering weekly groceries, designing flyers, or booking apartment tours.

In addition, Gemini Spark can now track topics and react to events in real time. That means it can monitor sports scores, stock movements, breaking news, social media feeds, blogs, online shopping updates, and weather changes, all while staying responsive to your needs.

Finally, Google says it is rolling out support for the custom Model Context Protocol (MCP), which will allow users to connect their favorite apps directly into Spark. That opens the door to building a more personalized assistant, tailored to individual workflows and preferences.
