At Google I/O 2026, the company unveiled two significant updates coming to the Gemini app on macOS later this summer, building on the native Mac app launched in April. That initial release was developed by a small team using Antigravity to speed up the process.
First up is Gemini Spark, a 24/7 personal AI agent designed to take actions on your behalf and help you “navigate your digital life.” It integrates with Gmail, Docs, other Workspace apps, and third-party services. Spark will enter beta next week for Google AI Ultra subscribers (priced at $100 per month) on Android, iOS, and the web. By summer, it arrives on Gemini for macOS with the ability to handle tasks involving local files and automate workflows across your desktop, as previously reported. This builds on the existing feature that lets you use any open window as context for prompts.
The second update is a new voice experience that lets you ramble freely. You “won’t have to worry about all the ‘ums’ or ‘what abouts’ that happen as you think aloud,” the company says. When you long-press the function key on Mac, Gemini displays a floating pill at the bottom of your screen. Releasing the key submits the prompt, accompanied by a thinking animation that shows progress. Using the context from your screen, Gemini can transform your free-flowing speech into precise drafts, instantly reformatting the text to capture your intent right where your cursor is.
During a Tuesday stage demo, Google showed a user selecting files in Finder, dictating an email, and having it automatically inserted into a Gmail compose window.
