The German company, which recently closed a massive €1.2bn Series C funding round, aims to integrate Adlatus’s autonomous cleaning hardware with its own artificial intelligence infrastructure. This move signals a strategic pivot toward expanding mobile robotics capabilities beyond traditional material handling.

Adlatus, based in Ulm, brings over two decades of experience in manufacturing autonomous sweeping and cleaning machines. Their fleet includes the CR700C and CR700D models for wet cleaning and wiping, alongside the SR1300 designed for vacuuming and sweeping. These units operate independently using self-contained docking stations that handle refilling and emptying. While NEURA did not disclose the financial terms of the deal, the acquisition is significant because it targets an established installed base rather than early-stage prototypes.

Upgrading Hardware with AI Intelligence

The core objective of this merger is to transform existing robotic hardware through advanced software integration. Currently, Adlatus machines follow pre-programmed routes. NEURA plans to overlay its Neuraverse platform onto these devices, equipping them with additional sensors and AI capabilities. This upgrade will enable robots to identify surface types, detect specific dirt patterns, and dynamically adjust their cleaning strategies based on real-time environmental data.

“We’re not buying ADLATUS just to add another cleaning robot to our portfolio. We want to give machines like this a new brain,” said David Reger, NEURA’s founder and chief executive.

Reger emphasizes that the cleaning industry represents a vast global labor market ripe for disruption by physical AI. Unlike generative AI, which relies on digital data, physical AI requires extensive real-world interaction to learn how tasks are executed. By acquiring Adlatus, NEURA gains immediate access to operational data and practical insights into how cleaning works in complex environments such as logistics centers, healthcare facilities, and public buildings.

Leveraging Mobile Robotics Infrastructure

The acquisition was executed through NEURA Mobile Robots, the group’s division focused on automated vehicles and logistics solutions. Operating under the ek robotics brand since 2025, this arm employs more than 300 staff across locations including Hamburg, Reutlingen, Milan, Prague, and Buckingham.

“Our aim is to expand mobile robotics beyond traditional material handling,” stated Andreas Lindemann, managing director of NEURA Mobile Robots. He noted that autonomous cleaning is the logical next step in their evolution. Lindemann intends to eventually integrate Adlatus machines into NEURA’s Fleet Manager system, allowing them to function as a distinct product family within the broader ecosystem.

This deal follows closely on the heels of NEURA’s purchase of the ACTIVE Shuttle automated guided vehicle business from Bosch Rexroth earlier in the month. That transaction brought the ACTIVE Fleet Manager and ROKIT navigation software into the NEURA fold. With Bosch also serving as an investor, NEURA is rapidly consolidating key technologies to offer comprehensive tools within its Neuraverse environment.

Financial Backing and Future Goals

NEURA’s aggressive expansion is fueled by a June Series C raise of up to €1.2bn, described as the largest ever secured by a full-stack robotics company. Investors included major tech and industrial players such as Tether, Qualcomm, Amazon, Nvidia, imec.xpand, Bosch, Schaeffler, the European Investment Bank, Lingotto Horizon, and InterAlpen Partners. At the time of the raise, the company reported an order book exceeding €864.8m.

The capital is earmarked for scaling manufacturing to produce millions of robots annually by 2030. Additionally, funds will support NEURA Gyms, simulated real-world environments where cognitive robots undergo training. Acquiring working fleets like Adlatus accelerates this goal by providing immediate operational data and customer relationships.

Combining Industrial Knowledge with AI Scale

Founded in 2019 and headquartered in Metzingen, NEURA produces a wide array of robotic systems, including the MAiRA and LARA arms, the MAV mobile platform, MiPA assistant, and the 4NE1 humanoid robot. All these systems are interconnected via the Neuraverse, a platform designed to allow developers and partners to enhance robot capabilities.

Reger frames these acquisitions as part of a broader industrial strategy for Europe. “Europe has an incredible amount of industrial knowledge. We don’t need to reinvent everything, we need to combine the best of what already exists with artificial intelligence and scale it much faster,” he explained. He argues that companies like Adlatus provide decades of physical world expertise, while NEURA supplies the necessary technological infrastructure.

The company maintains that the Neuraverse remains open to other manufacturers. Reger asserts that “Physical AI will only truly scale if it becomes an ecosystem,” inviting rival makers of cleaning and mobile robots to integrate their machines into the platform.

Competitive Landscape and Market Position

The push toward physical AI has become a lucrative sector for mergers and acquisitions globally. In June, onsemi acquired Synaptics for $7bn based on similar principles. Meanwhile, Asian competitors are moving swiftly; XPENG’s robotics arm raised over $900m this month, and China currently dominates humanoid robot production with companies like Unitree listing publicly after record demand.

NEURA distinguishes itself by focusing on platform interoperability rather than solely competing on manufacturing volume. By connecting disparate technologies through an open ecosystem, the company aims to leverage Europe’s strong industrial base against global rivals.

Pending Details and Integration Timeline

Despite the high-profile nature of the deals, several specifics remain undisclosed. Neither NEURA nor Adlatus revealed the purchase price or outlined changes to the Adlatus workforce and branding. Furthermore, the company has not specified when Adlatus machines will begin operating on the Neuraverse or which features will be deployed first.

It remains unclear whether NEURA will pursue further acquisitions following these two rapid transactions. The partnership between NEURA and Adlatus originally began in September 2025, timed with the CMS cleaning trade fair in Berlin, marking the transition from strategic collaboration to full ownership.
