Salesforce has officially announced a definitive agreement to acquire Fin, the customer service AI company formerly known as Intercom, in a deal valued at roughly $3.6 billion.

The acquisition arrives just one month after Intercom rebranded itself as Fin. The company’s flagship product is an AI-powered customer agent built to handle complex, end-to-end service requests across multiple channels. These include live chat, email, WhatsApp, SMS, phone, and Slack. Under the hood, Fin relies on a proprietary AI model called Apex, which was purpose-built specifically for customer support use cases.

This move comes at a strong moment for Salesforce’s own AI efforts. The company’s Agentforce business recently posted $1.2 billion in annual recurring revenue (ARR) for the first quarter of fiscal year 2027, reflecting a 20% year-over-year increase.

Salesforce expects Fin’s ready-to-deploy offerings and custom models to strengthen the Agentforce platform. In a public statement, the company explained that Fin’s technology will give customers more flexible options for deploying AI agents across customer service workflows. These include fast, low-risk solutions tailored for SMB and commercial organizations that need to launch quickly, integrate with existing systems, and produce measurable results.

Fin marks Salesforce’s fifth acquisition of 2026 and its third announced in June alone, following the purchases of M3ter and Contentful. The transaction is expected to close during the fourth quarter of Salesforce’s fiscal year 2027.
