Google may give Pixel 11a a newer processor

▼ Summary

– The Pixel 11a is rumored to feature the flagship-grade Tensor G6 processor, a return to form for the a-series.
– The Pixel 10a disappointed by shipping with the previous generation Tensor G4, unlike typical a-series phones.
– The Tensor G6 will use the same PowerVR DXT-48-1536 GPU as the G5, but will be an upgrade over the Tensor G4’s Mali-G715 GPU.
– The main upgrade in the Tensor G6 is switching from Samsung’s Exynos modems to a MediaTek M90 modem.

According to a new leak from Mystic Leaks, Google’s upcoming Pixel 11a may finally return to using a flagship-grade processor, specifically the Tensor G6. This would mark a significant shift from the Pixel 10a, which launched with the older Tensor G4 chipset , the same processor found in the Pixel 9 series. That decision was a letdown for fans, as previous Pixel A-series phones typically carried the current-generation chip while cutting costs elsewhere.

The Tensor G6 is expected to share its PowerVR DXT-48-1536 GPU with the Tensor G5, which powers the Pixel 10 and 10 Pro. Even so, it should deliver a noticeable performance boost over the Mali-G715 GPU in the Tensor G4. The bigger change, however, comes from the modem. Google is reportedly swapping out Samsung’s Exynos modems for a MediaTek M90 modem, a move that could improve connectivity and efficiency. This shift away from Samsung’s modem technology is a notable step for Google’s in-house chip ambitions.
