Square Enix has officially announced that Dragon Quest VII: Reimagined will launch for Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Switch 2 next February. The recent Sony State of Play event showcased a new follow-up trailer, giving players a fresh look at the heroes’ epic journey. Longtime fans received a special treat with the appearance of an older version of Kiefer, a familiar character who rejoins the adventure.
According to official details, Kiefer makes his return during the party’s travels to the past version of the Rucker region. Players will need to infiltrate Rucker Castle under cover of darkness to assist him, carefully avoiding detection by patrolling guards. Should the party be discovered, Kiefer’s enhanced combat abilities will prove invaluable in battle, suggesting potential future collaborations beyond this encounter.
While preserving the heart of the original game, this reimagined edition introduces streamlined progression systems, deeper character arcs, and entirely new narrative threads. Square Enix also elaborated on new gameplay mechanics involving exploration and world-building. Players will gather fragments of broken stone tablets, assembling them before placing completed tablets on corresponding colored pedestals.
This activity takes place at The Shrine of Mysteries, situated on the party’s home island. Each successfully restored tablet unlocks access to a unique location filled with distinct challenges. By resolving the troubles plaguing these areas, players actively reshape the game world, causing brand new islands to materialize from the ocean.
