Sony Interactive has officially unveiled the PlayStation Plus Essential games arriving in July, and the lineup packs a major AAA first-person shooter alongside two well-regarded indie titles. Starting Tuesday, July 7, subscribers can download Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, For the King 2, and CrossCode.

Leading the July 2026 collection is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, the 2023 installment in the blockbuster FPS series. This entry serves as the third chapter in the rebooted Modern Warfare timeline, following the 2019 and 2022 releases. Originally conceived as an expansion for its predecessor, it was eventually upgraded to a standalone release to fit the annual Call of Duty cycle,a decision that drew heavy criticism for its single-player campaign. The story follows Task Force 141 as they attempt to prevent World War III. However, the real draw remains the multiplayer experience, which offers extensive online modes. The package also includes a Zombies mode that borrows heavily from the Warzone formula.

The second title, For the King 2, is a roguelike tabletop RPG that supports both solo play and four-player co-op. Players must battle against an oppressive queen and her regime across a 30-hour campaign split into seven distinct adventures. A notable new addition is the battle grid, which makes positioning a critical factor in the game’s turn-based combat.

Rounding out the month is CrossCode, a retro-inspired action RPG with visuals straight out of the SNES era. It features Zelda-like dungeons and fast-paced combat set in a sci-fi world. The adventure can take anywhere from 30 to 80 hours to complete, offering over 120 enemy types across seven massive dungeons and more than 100 quests. The game has earned a “very positive” rating on Steam from more than 10,000 reviews, largely due to its sheer volume of content.

For those who haven’t yet claimed June’s offerings, Grounded Fully Yoked Edition, Nickelodeon All Star Brawl 2, and Warhammer 40,000: Darktide remain available until July 7.

PlayStation Plus Essential is the entry-level tier of Sony’s subscription service. It provides online multiplayer access, a monthly selection of free PS4 and PS5 games, cloud storage, and discounts on the PlayStation Store. Following a price increase across all PS Plus tiers in May, the Essential plan now costs $10.99 per month, $27.99 for three months, or $79.99 for a full year.
