Now that WWDC has wrapped up and Apple has laid out its AI vision for the near future, attention is shifting to what comes next. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has shared fresh details on rumored hardware, including the long-anticipated camera-equipped AirPods he previously flagged. According to Gurman, these earbuds remain on track for a late 2027 launch, and while users will be testing the beta for this fall’s iOS 27 update, Apple is already internally testing the AirPods with next year’s software, iOS 28.
The earbuds are expected to feature cameras built into their stems, along with indicator lights that glow when data is being uploaded to the cloud. This setup would give an upgraded Siri visual context about the user’s environment, acting as a stepping stone before Apple eventually releases its first pair of smart glasses.
Gurman also touched on Apple’s foldable ambitions. He reports that a second-generation foldable iPhone is in the works, following a first model expected this fall. This second device signals that Apple is serious about the foldable category and may find more compelling ways to use dual screens than competitors have so far. As someone who uses a Pixel 10 Pro Fold, I can attest to the trade-offs: apps that don’t adapt to the larger display, a smaller battery than the standard Pixel 10, and a steep price tag.
Another long-running rumor resurfaced: the so-called 20th anniversary iPhone, internally codenamed V73 and V74. Gurman says this model will follow this year’s iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, offering similar screen sizes but with a nearly edge-to-edge display and curved glass that wraps around the sides.
As for the standard iPhone 18, it may not arrive until next year. It would run on an A20 series chip similar to phones launching this fall, while the other 2027 iPhones jump to a 2nm A21 chip. Apple is reportedly planning a shift to 1.4nm technology for the A22 Pro and is considering using Intel for some production alongside its usual partner, TSMC.
These details align with rumors from recent years that hinted at a slim iPhone Air. But with John Ternus taking over as CEO, a looming RAM and component shortage, and AI reshaping everything, even the most solid plans could shift.
