Summer has a way of pulling at the heartstrings, and right now, mine are tugging hard for the golden era of the Xbox 360. It’s not just because the current Xbox generation feels like a mixed bag, either. Over the weekend, while browsing the Xbox store with some reward points burning a hole in my digital pocket, I stumbled across a treasure trove: a slew of classic 360 titles are currently deeply discounted. Better yet, thanks to Microsoft’s robust backwards compatibility program, these games run beautifully on Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S hardware.
If you own an Xbox One or a Series X/S and don’t already have these in your library, now is the perfect time to stock up. In fact, you could snag all 14 of the games listed below for less than the cost of a single new $70 release, instantly building a solid starter collection of standout third-party Xbox 360 experiences. These deals run through July 30, so act fast. Here are the highlights:
The Witcher 2: Assassin’s of Kings – $3 (85% off) Deus Ex: Human Revolution – $2.50 (85% off) Dragon Age: Origins – $3.75 (75% off) Lost Odyssey – $6.25 (75% off) Resident Evil Code: Veronica X – $3 (85% off) Street Fighter IV – $4 (80% off) Blue Dragon – $5 (75% off) Mass Effect – $5 (75% off)
And for fans of indie classics from the Xbox Summer of Arcade:
Shadow Complex – $5 (70% off) Super Meat Boy – $5 (70% off) Limbo – $1.87 (85% off) Castle Crashers Remastered – $7.50 (50% off) Braid – $3.29 (67% off) ‘Splosion Man – $3.29 (67% off) Trials HD – $3.29 (67% off)
A few clarifications before the comments light up. Street Fighter IV is on sale, but you can upgrade to the superior Ultra Street Fighter IV for just $3 more, which is well worth it. Resident Evil Code: Veronica X is technically a remaster of a PS2 and Dreamcast-era title, but it remains the best way to play this spin-off before the rumored Code Veronica remake arrives next year. As for Mass Effect, the Xbox 360 version has some bugs, but in my opinion, it still delivers the best experience of the series’ finest entry. However, the Legendary Edition remasters are also discounted right now, giving you all three games for just $6 if you prefer a polished package.
You might also notice that Bastion, the isometric action-RPG from Supergiant Games and arguably the best Summer of Arcade indie release ever, is not on this list. That’s because it’s currently full price at $15. But today marks its 15th anniversary, and honestly, that’s still a bargain at a dollar for every year it’s been around.
