After higher prices for the Galaxy S26 and a likely costlier Galaxy Z Fold 8, the ongoing RAM crisis appears to have impacted another flagship: Google’s Pixel 11. The primary reason many choose a Google phone,its comparatively low price,may soon vanish.
Deleted Amazon listings, first noticed by an Android Authority reader and later corroborated by Droid Life, reveal that the base Pixel 11 will start at $899 for 256GB of storage. That is $100 more than the iPhone 17’s $799 starting price. An Apple device being cheaper at launch than a Pixel is practically a collector’s item.
This poses a serious problem for Google’s core pitch. Yes, the base model jumps from 128GB to 256GB, which accounts for some of the increase. But for the last decade, the main reason to buy a Pixel has always been its price and camera (though Apple has caught up on the latter). Take the price advantage away, and Google needs a different argument.
That argument is almost certainly Gemini Intelligence. Google’s agentic AI suite can handle multi-step tasks with minimal oversight: booking reservations, managing your calendar, or pulling items from your notes into a shopping cart. It goes far beyond simple voice commands or app shortcuts. The whole pitch is a phone that can reason through a task across multiple apps on your behalf,checking your emails, drafting a reply, adding the result to your calendar, and confirming a purchase,all without you tapping through each step yourself.
If Google can no longer win on price, expect the marketing to shift hard toward claiming the Pixel 11 can actually do things for you that an iPhone cannot yet. And if Gemini Intelligence ends up restricted to only the latest Samsung and Google phones, that argument becomes even more persuasive.
However, there are real risks with agentic AI suddenly available on millions of Android phones. Prompt injection attacks, where AI is tricked into ignoring its rules with hidden text prompts, remain a serious threat that has not been fully resolved. Google has its own deep defenses,layered rules and an AI “critic” model that checks the agent’s actions. The company has also stated that users will have the final say before any purchase is made.
But I still have questions. What happens if a user is presented with the final say on a scam site because the AI cannot tell the difference? OpenAI noted in November 2025 that prompt injection attacks remain a “challenging research problem.” It will be interesting to hear Google’s detailed plans to protect its users.
