Nintendo has rolled out a significant new update for the racing title Kirby Air Riders on Switch 2, bringing the game to Version 1.2.0. This substantial patch introduces a suite of new features, makes numerous balance adjustments to riders and machines, and squashes a long list of bugs to improve the overall experience. For players invested in the game’s competitive and casual scenes, these changes are designed to refine gameplay and add fresh functionality.
A major addition is amiibo support. Players can now scan their figures at the terminal in the paddock to race with figure players. The update also enhances the online waiting experience, allowing you to test courses solo during matchmaking for Air Ride and Top Ride modes. In City Trial, you can explore Skyah once matched with at least one other player. The social and spectator features see improvements too; replay videos will now play on the monitor in the paddock, and you can seek playback position when watching videos in the Spectate menu.
Several balance tweaks aim to fine-tune the meta. The rider Rick has been nerfed, with lowered HP, Defense, and a less powerful Rip-Roaring Rick Special in City Trial and Air Ride modes. Adjustments to machines are widespread. Quick Spin backlash from hitting walls has been weakened for all machines, and specific types have seen stat changes: Star-types have a lower initial Defense in City Trial, while Tank-types received a Defense boost. Many individual machines, like the Warp Star and Jet Star, have had their deceleration when grinding against or crashing into walls strengthened to promote cleaner driving.
The list of bug fixes is extensive, targeting issues that affected progression, online play, and specific events. Communication stability during online play has been improved. A fix addresses the appearance rate of “The Mysterious Bird Dyna Blade” City Trial event, which was sometimes too low. Problems with Checklist tasks not tracking properly, such as “Play every course” in Air Ride or “Defeat other riders a total of 50 times” in City Trial, have been resolved. Other corrections include fixing terrain clipping issues with Gooey on specific courses and ensuring purchased machines from the Machine Market correctly appear in City Trial offline.
Nintendo has acknowledged two known issues not fixed in this update: an error when opening the Gummies screen with a specific count, and a problem where Checklist completion marks might disappear. These are slated for a future patch. Players should note that replay files from Version 1.1.1 may not be compatible with this new version.
