Microsoft Fixes Windows 10 Update With New Patch

▼ Summary

– Windows 10 officially reached its end-of-life last month, over a decade after its initial release.
– Microsoft is offering one to three years of Extended Security Updates for many Windows 10 PCs due to its continued popularity.
– Individuals can receive an additional year of updates for free, but enrollment bugs initially prevented some PCs from signing up.
– A broken enrollment process meant affected PCs could not receive essential security updates, as each device must be manually enrolled.
– Microsoft released update KB5071959 to fix the enrollment wizard failure and ensure affected customers can get security updates.

Microsoft has rolled out a new patch to resolve a technical glitch that was preventing certain Windows 10 devices from enrolling in the Extended Security Updates (ESU) program. Although official support for Windows 10 concluded recently, the operating system remains widely used, leading Microsoft to offer continued security coverage for eligible systems. This fix ensures users can maintain protection without interruption.

Initially reported by Windows Latest, the bug disrupted the enrollment wizard, leaving some computers unable to sign up for the ESU program. Since enrollment must be completed manually for each device, any failure in the process meant those machines could not receive vital security patches. This posed a significant risk, especially for users relying on the free additional year of updates Microsoft has made available.

The newly released update, identified as KB5071959 for Windows 10 version 22H2, directly addresses the enrollment failure. Microsoft has made the patch available to all Windows 10 systems, whether or not they are currently enrolled in the ESU program. The company emphasized that the update resolves the underlying issue, allowing affected customers to obtain essential security updates moving forward.
