The world’s first permanent Pokémon theme park, PokéPark KANTO, is officially opening its doors in Tokyo on February 5, 2026. Situated within Yomiuriland, the city’s largest amusement park, this immersive outdoor attraction invites guests to step directly into the role of a Pokémon trainer. A concept video released by the official Pokémon Company shows how the beloved video games will be brought to life, allowing visitors to explore a world filled with their favorite creatures.
Upon entering, guests will be welcomed by the iconic trio of Kanto starter Pokémon: Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle. The park itself is thoughtfully divided into two main sections. The Pokémon Forest offers a natural wooded trail with diverse landscapes where visitors can discover numerous Pokémon statues. Sedge Town, on the other hand, is the bustling hub of activity. Here, you can enjoy the Vee Vee Voyage carousel, shop for exclusive goods at the Pokémon Center, grab special park-only refreshments at the Trainer’s Mart, and watch a spectacular stage show at the Sedge Gym featuring dancing Pikachus. Additional experiences include Pokémon meet-and-greet sessions and a lively parade. In total, the park will showcase more than 600 different Pokémon.
While temporary PokéPark attractions were set up in Nagoya, Japan, and Taiwan back in 2005 and 2006, PokéPark KANTO marks a significant milestone as the franchise’s first permanent outdoor theme park. This long-term installation aims to deliver a consistently magical experience for fans of all ages.
Tickets will be available through a lottery system starting November 21 of this year. Two main passes are being offered. The Ace Trainer’s Pass provides unlimited access to both the Pokémon Forest and Sedge Town, along with valuable perks like priority lane access for rides, reserved seating for the Sedge Gym show, special meet-and-greet opportunities, and exclusive merchandise. The Trainer’s Pass grants unlimited entry to Sedge Town but requires a scheduled time slot for visiting the Pokémon Forest. A future pass limited to Sedge Town is also in the works. All the latest details can be found on the official park website.
This new park joins a growing trend of video game-inspired amusement destinations. Universal Studios Japan in Osaka already features the popular Super Nintendo World, which expanded with a Donkey Kong Country area last year. Similar Nintendo-themed lands exist at Universal Studios Hollywood and are planned for the upcoming Universal Epic Universe. Additionally, Minecraft theme parks are scheduled to debut in both the United States and the United Kingdom between 2026 and 2027.
