Amazon is rolling out a new artificial intelligence feature designed to help self-published authors expand their global reach. The tool, called Kindle Translate, entered a limited beta phase on Thursday, allowing select Kindle Direct Publishing authors to translate their ebooks into other languages at no additional charge. Initially, the service supports translations between English and Spanish, as well as German to English.

Writers using the platform can choose their target languages, set custom pricing for each translated edition, and review the converted text before officially releasing it. Amazon confirmed that every translation undergoes an automated accuracy review prior to publication, and any ebook processed through the system will carry a special “Kindle Translate” identifier.

The company highlighted that currently less than 5% of titles on its platform are offered in multiple languages, a gap this initiative aims to close. Books translated using the AI tool will qualify for inclusion in KDP Select and Kindle Unlimited subscription programs. This launch follows a similar recent innovation from Audible, Amazon’s audiobook division, which introduced a multilingual AI narration tool earlier this year.
