YouTube’s new Hype feature is now available worldwide, offering a fresh way for viewers to support emerging creators and help their content gain visibility. Initially unveiled during Google’s Made On YouTube event earlier this year, the tool is designed specifically for channels with fewer than 500,000 subscribers, giving smaller creators a meaningful opportunity to stand out in a crowded digital landscape.

The feature has launched across 39 countries, including major markets like the United States, United Kingdom, Japan, Korea, Indonesia, and India. A dedicated Hype button now appears beneath the Like button on eligible videos, allowing fans to actively participate in boosting their favorite creators’ reach.

Each viewer can hype up to three videos per week, contributing points that influence a new ranked leaderboard accessible through YouTube’s Explore tab. To ensure fairness, YouTube gives a greater algorithmic boost to videos from creators with smaller subscriber counts. This means a hype from a fan carries more weight for an up-and-coming channel than for an established one.

Videos that receive enough support will display a special “hyped” badge, and users can filter their Home feed to see only hyped content. Fans who contribute will receive notifications when a video they supported nears the leaderboard. Additionally, consistent supporters can earn a monthly “hype star” badge, adding a gamified layer to community engagement.

YouTube introduced Hype in response to fan enthusiasm for participating in creators’ growth. The platform also sees potential for a new revenue stream, with plans to eventually allow users to purchase additional hypes. Paid hypes are currently in testing phases in Brazil and Turkey.

Looking ahead, YouTube is developing interest-specific leaderboards for categories like gaming and style, along with social sharing options for when users hype a video. Creators can monitor their hype activity and performance through the YouTube Studio mobile app, where a new Hype card and weekly recap provide valuable analytics on audience support.

This initiative reflects YouTube’s ongoing effort to foster community-driven growth while providing creators with more tools to understand and leverage fan engagement.
