– Microsoft fixed the issue with an emergency update (KB5063060) in June 2025 and fully lifted the hold on July 24, 2025.
– Older Easy Anti-Cheat versions may still show warnings but won’t trigger BSODs unless launched with a game.
– Microsoft previously resolved similar holds for Intel Alder Lake+ systems and other software like AutoCAD and Safe Exam Browser.

Microsoft has finally resolved compatibility issues between Windows 11 and Easy Anti-Cheat, allowing gamers to safely upgrade to the latest OS version without fearing system crashes. The company lifted the update block that previously prevented installations for users running the popular anti-cheat software, which protects hundreds of multiplayer titles.

Last month, Microsoft confirmed the problem affected devices with Easy Anti-Cheat installed, causing blue screen errors and unexpected restarts during gameplay. Affected titles included major franchises like Apex Legends, Elden Ring, and Fortnite, among others. The issue stemmed from conflicts between the anti-cheat service and Windows 11’s 24H2 update, triggering crashes tied to system processes.

To address the instability, Microsoft rolled out an emergency patch (KB5063060) in early June. Now, over a month later, the company has officially removed the safeguard hold, enabling seamless upgrades for eligible devices. While some users might still see warnings about outdated Easy Anti-Cheat versions, Microsoft clarified these won’t cause crashes unless actively used in games.

This isn’t the first time compatibility holds have disrupted Windows 11 updates. Earlier this year, Intel Alder Lake systems faced similar blocks due to crashes in Asphalt 8 and anti-cheat-related blue screens. Microsoft resolved those issues in March, urging gamers to restart their PCs for faster update delivery.

The company has also cleared hurdles for other software, including AutoCAD and Safe Exam Browser, which previously faced launch failures on Windows 11. With these fixes in place, users can now upgrade with confidence, knowing critical applications and games will run smoothly.

For gamers, the removal of these restrictions means smoother performance and fewer interruptions, ensuring they can enjoy their favorite titles without worrying about system instability. Microsoft continues to monitor compatibility issues, prioritizing stability for both productivity tools and entertainment software.
