Following yesterday’s Nintendo Direct, a demo for Kingdom Hearts 3 landed on the Nintendo Switch 2, allowing for a direct comparison with the PlayStation 5 version (played through PS4 Pro backwards compatibility) and the Steam Deck.
The Kingdom Hearts series is finally arriving on Nintendo Switch 2 in the form fans have long wanted. Earlier entries on the original Switch were limited to cloud-based streaming, which demanded a constant internet connection to play.
In performance terms, the Nintendo Switch 2 holds a clear advantage over the Steam Deck. However, when stacked against the PS5, a few key differences stand out.
The Nintendo Switch 2 version of Kingdom Hearts 3 appears to feature an unlocked frame rate. On PS5, the game runs at a nearly flawless 60 frames per second. The Switch 2, by contrast, typically fluctuates between 30 and 40 FPS.
When the Switch 2 is docked, its graphical effects are largely comparable to the PS5. The trade-offs become more visible in handheld mode, where resolution and reflections are dialed back.
