Fable launches February 23, 2027

Playground Games and Xbox Game Studios have officially confirmed that Fable will arrive on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC (via Steam and the Microsoft Store) on February 23, 2027. The announcement marks a major milestone for the long-awaited revival of the beloved fantasy franchise, which has been in development for several years.

For the first time in series history, Fable will be available on a non-Microsoft platform at launch. The PlayStation 5 version represents a significant shift in Xbox’s strategy, signaling a broader commitment to bringing first-party titles to competing consoles. This move follows similar releases of other Xbox Game Studios titles on PlayStation and Nintendo systems.

The Fable reboot was originally unveiled during the Xbox Games Showcase in July 2020, though specific gameplay details remained scarce until recent trailers offered a glimpse of its lush, whimsical world. Playground Games, best known for the Forza Horizon series, is leading development, aiming to blend the series’ signature humor, moral choices, and action-RPG combat with modern technical standards.

While an exact release date was previously unknown, the February 2027 window places Fable in a competitive period for the gaming industry. Pre-orders are expected to open closer to launch, with both standard and deluxe editions likely available across all platforms.

The Xbox Series X|S and PC versions will be available day one on Game Pass, as is standard for Microsoft’s first-party releases. PlayStation 5 players, however, will need to purchase the game separately unless a subscription deal is announced later.
