AppDirect has completed its sixth acquisition in the past year, purchasing the partner relationship management platform PartnerStack. The Toronto-based company holds a commanding position in its category, with over 138,000 B2B partners and an estimated 50% market share. This strategic move fills a critical gap in AppDirect’s ambitious plan to build a comprehensive B2B technology distribution platform, often described as an “Everything Store.” Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
Founded in 2015 as GrowSumo, PartnerStack has built a network where SaaS companies manage referral, reseller, and affiliate programs. Its platform handles the entire partner lifecycle, from recruitment and onboarding to tracking and commission payouts. The company had raised $38.2 million in venture capital, including a $29 million Series B round, and is a graduate of Y Combinator. For AppDirect, this acquisition provides a dedicated engine to manage the complex web of partnerships that are increasingly vital for software sales.
This purchase is the latest in a methodical buying spree. AppDirect’s recent acquisitions include Tackle.io, a cloud go-to-market platform facilitating over $20 billion in hyperscaler transactions, and vCom Solutions, a network and mobility management company bought for more than $100 million. With a foundation of marketplace commerce, advisor networks, and direct cloud provider integrations already in place, PartnerStack represents the final major component in AppDirect’s integrated distribution model.
The aggressive consolidation reflects a broader shift in how businesses buy software. Research indicates a rapid migration toward marketplace-led purchasing, with partner-sourced deals closing faster and at higher values than traditional direct sales. The global PRM market itself is projected to grow significantly this decade. AppDirect’s strategy bets that fragmentation in B2B distribution is a major inefficiency, and the company that builds the most complete platform will capture outsized value.
By combining forces, the two companies gain significant advantages. AppDirect accesses PartnerStack’s vast network and the valuable data on which partnerships actually drive revenue. PartnerStack’s customers, in turn, gain potential pathways to new channels, including direct marketplace listings and cloud hyperscaler storefronts, through AppDirect’s existing infrastructure. The combined entity aims to offer unified infrastructure that few competitors can match.
The central challenge now is execution. Integrating six acquisitions in twelve months is a complex undertaking, requiring the seamless merging of different technologies, customer relationships, and company cultures. AppDirect’s leadership, including co-founders Nicolas Desmarais and Daniel Saks, has experience from over a dozen acquisitions since the company’s 2009 founding. Their ability to successfully weave these pieces into a single, coherent platform will determine whether this bold consolidation bet pays off.
