Nothing has officially introduced its latest mid-range smartphones, the Phone 4A and the more premium 4A Pro, marking a significant design departure for the brand. The two models present strikingly different aesthetics, with the Pro version notably stepping away from the company’s signature transparent look that defined its earlier devices. This launch signals a strategic shift for Nothing as it refines its visual identity and hardware offerings in a competitive market.

The Phone 4A Pro is particularly eye-catching as the first model from the brand to largely abandon the transparent rear shell. Instead, it features a sleek metal unibody design, with the company’s “refined transparent” elements confined solely to the camera module. This module also incorporates a larger version of the Glyph Matrix display first seen on last year’s flagship. The phone will be available in opaque aluminum finishes of black, silver, and a soft pink. This design evolution may come as a surprise, but it follows the more minimalist direction hinted at with the previous 3A Lite and could appeal to a broader audience than the divisive, asymmetrical style of the Phone 3.

For those committed to Nothing’s original aesthetic, the standard Phone 4A remains much closer to the brand’s heritage. It retains the transparent rear panel that hints at internal components, alongside visible screws. The key new feature here is the introduction of the Glyph Bar, a vertical column of LEDs on the side that handles notifications and interactive lighting features. This model also boasts a more vibrant color palette, including a standout pink, a vibrant blue, and the classic white and black options.

Choosing the standard 4A does involve some technical trade-offs. The 4A Pro boasts a superior display that is slightly larger, brighter, and offers a faster refresh rate. Its build is also thinner, aided by the metal construction. Under the hood, the Pro is powered by a more capable Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 processor, compared to the 7s Gen 4 in the 4A. It also has a higher IP65 rating for water resistance and an improved main camera sensor. Both phones share identical telephoto, ultrawide, and selfie cameras, though the Pro uniquely supports a “140x ultra zoom” feature, likely enabled via software or its more powerful chipset. They both house the same substantial 5,080mAh battery and are promised three major Android OS updates and six years of security patches.

Availability will influence consumer choice. While both models are launching in the UK, Europe, and India, only the Phone 4A Pro will be sold in the United States. The standard 4A starts at £349 / €349, with pre-orders beginning now for a March 13th release. The 4A Pro is priced at $499 / £499 / €479, with pre-orders opening on March 13th and full availability starting March 27th.

Accompanying the phones is the new Headphone A, an over-ear model that follows last year’s Headphone 1. It achieves a $100 lower price point by making compromises in call quality and omitting a carrying case. Its design also leans into a more opaque look, mirroring the 4A Pro’s shift and suggesting a broader move away from transparency across Nothing’s product lineup. This shift may not immediately reach the flagship tier, however, as the company has confirmed there will be no flagship Phone 4 released this year. This makes the Phone 4A Pro the most powerful hardware Nothing will offer throughout 2026.
