Aqara’s CES Debut: Here’s What They Proved

▼ Summary
– Aqara announced several new smart home products, including a smart lock, thermostat, camera, and sensors, at a showcase in Las Vegas.
– The Camera Hub G350 is Aqara’s first camera supporting Matter 1.5, offering 360-degree coverage, person/pet tracking, and serving as a Zigbee hub and Matter controller.
– The Thermostat Hub W200 features a touchscreen, integrates with Apple’s Adaptive Temperature and Clean Energy Guidance, and can sync with doorbells to see visitors.
– The Smart Lock U400 uses UWB technology to unlock automatically as a resident approaches and is Matter-certified, with initial support for Apple Home keys and future support for other digital wallets.
– Aqara introduced two sensors: the FP400, which uses radar to track occupant presence and posture, and the P100, a versatile sensor for detecting motion, vibration, and object movement.
At CES, Aqara solidified its position as a major innovator in the smart home space by introducing a suite of new products designed for seamless, intelligent living. The company’s latest offerings focus on enhancing convenience, improving energy efficiency, and creating a more responsive home environment through advanced sensor technology and broad Matter compatibility. This strategic push demonstrates Aqara’s commitment to building an interconnected ecosystem that moves beyond simple device control toward true ambient intelligence.
Central to this vision are two new hub devices that act as powerful command centers. The Camera Hub G350 and the Thermostat Hub W200 both function as Matter controllers, equipped with dual-band Wi-Fi, Thread, and Zigbee radios. This multi-protocol support allows them to connect and manage a wide array of Aqara and third-party Matter devices. Aqara describes this capability as “Spatial Intelligence,” aiming to create a unified, intelligent network throughout the home.
The G350 is particularly noteworthy as Aqara’s first camera to support the Matter 1.5 specification. This indoor camera features a dual-lens system with a 4K wide-angle lens and a 9x zoom lens, all on a motorized base that provides 360-degree coverage. It can automatically identify and track people or pets, day or night, and send alerts for specific sounds like glass breaking, coughing, or crying. Beyond its surveillance duties, it also serves as a local storage hub with support for up to 512GB microSD cards and functions as a Zigbee hub and Matter bridge for older devices.
Meanwhile, the W200 thermostat integrates smart climate control with hub functionality. Its 4-inch touchscreen display supports Apple’s Adaptive Temperature and Clean Energy Guidance features. This means it can automatically adjust settings based on user activity states, like home, sleep, or away, set in the Apple Home app. It also aims to schedule heating and cooling for times when grid energy is cleaner and potentially less expensive. The display can even show video from a compatible Aqara doorbell and allow users to unlock the door, syncing with the company’s new smart lock.
Speaking of locks, the Smart Lock U400 represents a significant leap in hands-free access. This deadbolt uses Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology to automatically unlock when an authorized user approaches within about six feet. Initially, this feature will work with Apple Home keys stored in an iPhone or Apple Wallet. However, as a Matter-certified and “Aliro-ready” device, it is designed to eventually support digital keys from other platforms like Samsung and Google. The U400 is available now with a price tag of $269.99.
Aqara also unveiled sophisticated new sensors that push the boundaries of what smart home devices can perceive. The FP400 sensor utilizes mmWave radar to detect human presence with remarkable detail. It can not only sense occupancy but also determine if a person is standing, sitting, or lying down. This allows for advanced applications like fall detection, occupant counting, and tracking movement patterns within a room. Pricing and availability for the FP400 are still to be announced.
Rounding out the announcements is the Multi-State Sensor P100. This compact, Matter-enabled device packs a 9-axis sensor capable of detecting a wide range of events. It can sense motion, vibration, taps, drops, and tilts. Practical applications include monitoring doors and windows for openings or closings, detecting glass breaks, and alerting owners if valuable objects are moved. Like the FP400, release details for the P100 are forthcoming.
Together, these products form a cohesive strategy to make homes more intuitive, secure, and efficient, marking a substantial step forward in Aqara’s ecosystem development.
