Google Extends Pixel 7A Repair Program to Address Battery Swelling

Google has introduced an expanded repair initiative for the Pixel 7A to address issues related to battery swelling. This program offers complimentary repairs for devices experiencing symptoms such as bulging or separation of the phone cover due to an expanding battery. Additionally, rapid battery depletion is also recognized as a symptom covered by the program.
Released in 2023, the Pixel 7A has encountered numerous complaints from users, particularly regarding battery performance. Online forums like Reddit have seen discussions about battery swelling, poor battery life, and challenges in obtaining warranty repairs from Google.
Google assures that battery replacement will be provided at no cost to individual owners, although this offer excludes devices with other issues like liquid damage or cracks not caused by the swollen battery. Eligibility for the repair program requires users to undergo a process on the program’s official site. Once approved, users can either mail their device for repair or visit an authorized repair facility.
In regions where repair options are unavailable (excluding the US and India), Google will compensate users instead. Owners of out-of-warranty Pixel 7A devices may receive $200 (converted to local currency), or $300 towards a new Pixel. For devices under warranty, the compensation can be up to $456.
This isn’t Google’s first extended repair program. Last year, the Pixel 8 repair program was launched to address screen issues like pink vertical lines and flickering. Similarly, the Pixel 4 XL received an additional year of coverage for power-related problems.
