Roku has officially unveiled its most significant home screen redesign in over a decade, a move that comes on the heels of the company surpassing 100 million streaming households. The updated interface promises a more personalized and intuitive user experience, leveraging deep viewer data to surface content faster and more intelligently.
Dubbed by the company as both “dynamic and smarter,” this overhaul marks the first major refresh of the Roku Home Screen in more than ten years. According to Roku, the new design delivers “more relevant recommendations and faster pathways to content, guided by deep behavioral insights and viewer input.” The goal is to eliminate the friction of endless scrolling and put desired entertainment front and center.
“We set out to rethink the Home Screen by listening to the people who use it every day,” said Roku CEO and founder Anthony Wood. “We talked to viewers, tested extensively, and pushed until both the design and the data aligned for a meaningful update. Our new Home Screen puts entertainment at the center of everything while staying true to Roku’s simple, intuitive roots. More than 100 million households will feel the difference the moment they turn on their TV, and it opens up a better, more powerful experience for our partners as well.”
The redesign is backed by consumer sentiment. Roku cited a recent poll indicating that 82% of streaming subscribers would love to turn on their TV and immediately see the show they want to watch on the home screen. The new interface aims to deliver exactly that.
Key features of the revamped home screen include Quick Access for the most frequently used apps, an intelligence-driven “Top Picks for You” section that is both expanded and content-first, and new curated genre and mood-based hubs called Destinations. Users can now browse and discover content across all their subscriptions from a single location. Expanded search capabilities, a streamlined collapsible menu, and elevated shortcuts for everyday actions like Save List and Continued Watching are also part of the update. A new dynamic row called Your Daily Scoop provides a curated digest of breakout shows and cultural trends, while a dedicated Roku City tile offers an interactive version of the popular screensaver.
The new Roku Home Screen begins rolling out today across all Roku TVs and streaming devices in the U. S., with an international expansion expected in the coming months.
