TP-Link is moving aggressively into the next-generation networking era, unveiling its first devices built for the emerging Wi-Fi 8 standard. Although the IEEE 802.11bn specification remains in development and is not expected to receive final certification until May 2028, the company showcased the Archer 8 Ultra router and the Deco 8 Ultra mesh system at IFA 2026. This strategic move positions TP-Link ahead of competitors who are still waiting for standards to solidify, with Wi-Fi 7 only being finalized in January 2024.
The hardware promises significant performance leaps over current offerings. The Archer 8 Ultra is equipped with 18 internal antennas, capable of delivering wireless speeds up to 19Gbps and wired connections reaching 10Gbps. Meanwhile, the Deco 8 Ultra mesh network offers even higher wireless throughput at 22Gbps, while maintaining the same 10Gbps wired capability. According to TP-Link, a three-pack setup can cover areas up to 9,800 square feet and support more than 200 connected devices simultaneously. The company emphasizes that these upgrades are designed to “address the connectivity problems people actually notice” rather than simply chasing raw speed metrics.
Despite the impressive specifications, consumers will need to wait before purchasing these devices. TP-Link has not announced pricing but confirmed that preorders for the Archer 8 Ultra will open in select regions on September 30th. The Deco 8 Ultra is scheduled for release in the first quarter of 2027, with additional Wi-Fi 8 products such as range extenders, adapters, and the Roam 8 travel router arriving in the second quarter of that year.
This early launch strategy also serves to mitigate potential concerns regarding supply chain vulnerabilities. While some US regulations restrict foreign-made routers, TP-Link states that its new lineup utilizes chipsets from Broadcom, Qualcomm, and MediaTek. To reassure customers about reliability and compliance, the company highlights its commitment to “US-led hardware and software engineering to deliver the most reliable Wi-Fi ever built.” By introducing these products now, TP-Link aims to secure market share before the broader industry catches up to the next generation of wireless technology.
