iPhone 18 Rumors: 20 Claims Ranked by Likelihood

With Apple’s next major hardware refresh drawing closer, the rumor mill is buzzing with predictions about the iPhone 18 lineup, including the first foldable iPhone and updates to the iPhone Air. The standard iPhone 18, iPhone 18e, and iPhone Air 2 are expected to arrive in spring 2027, following a new split-launch strategy that puts the Pro models and foldable on stage this fall. We’ve sifted through the most persistent whispers and ranked them from nearly certain to highly speculative.

Solid Rumors

The iPhone Air 2 is tipped to feature a 3,500 mAh battery, an 11 percent increase over its predecessor. A more efficient 2nm A20 chip and a thinner display could either boost battery life or free up internal space for the larger cell. Meanwhile, the foldable iPhone may launch in just two muted colors: white or silver, with the darker option rumored as indigo, space gray, or black.

A narrower Dynamic Island appears likely for the iPhone 18 Pro, with prototypes, screen protectors, and CAD images showing a cutout roughly 35 percent slimmer than current iPhone 17 models. However, conflicting reports suggest Apple considered both sizes and may delay the change to next year due to Face ID component challenges. The camera plateau on the Pro Max is also expected to thicken from 11.23mm to 11.54mm, according to dummy models, while the smaller Pro variant will see a similar but unmeasured increase.

Apple is reportedly simplifying Camera Control by removing the capacitive sensing layer and relying entirely on pressure sensitivity. This would eliminate swipe gestures and accidental adjustments, while also lowering manufacturing and repair costs. On the foldable front, the inner display’s crease is said to be less than 0.15mm deep, making it nearly invisible during normal use, though some physical crease may remain inevitable.

The foldable’s name is increasingly referred to as the iPhone Ultra, fitting its expected premium positioning above the Pro Max. Still, no final name has been confirmed, and “iPhone Fold” remains a distant possibility.

A single report from a relatively new leaker claims Apple has tested a teleconverter for the iPhone 18 Pro that would boost the camera’s effective focal length. The feasibility of such a system inside a smartphone remains unclear. Meanwhile, an early report from The Information suggested the iPhone 18 Pro would ditch the Dynamic Island for a top-left hole-punch camera, but later leaks point to either a smaller centered Dynamic Island or no change at all, making the hole-punch design increasingly unlikely.

One leaker claims Apple may downgrade the standard iPhone 18’s display and chip to share more components with the iPhone 18e and control costs. This lacks corroboration and contradicts expectations for a 2nm A20 chip and increased RAM. For the foldable, a 24-megapixel under-display camera (UDC) on the inner screen has been rumored, but other sources suggest the technology isn’t ready, so visible hole-punch cameras on both displays may be used instead.
