Berlin’s Dunia invests €280M in autonomous AI-materials GigaLab

Berlin-based Dunia Innovations has announced plans to build a €280 million autonomous R&D facility in the city, named GigaLab. The 6,000-square-metre site is backed by major industry players including Siemens, ABB Robotics, NVIDIA, AWS, and ILS. The company frames this project as Europe’s direct answer to a growing bottleneck: the gap between AI-driven materials design and the physical verification needed to validate those discoveries.

Dunia’s core mission is to build autonomous infrastructure for materials research and development. With GigaLab, the company aims to close the loop that currently slows down innovation. While AI can rapidly propose new material compositions, testing and proving them in the real world remains slow, manual, and expensive. This facility is designed to automate that entire verification process.
