Wu: That essay is one of the guiding principles for our team. It’s tough because the models evolve so fast that it’s nearly impossible to say, “This will definitely be the next form factor.” We have a few hypotheses. We internally test many of these ideas, but we’re pretty open to being wrong. The key is staying very close to what the models can actually do.

Ars: I know some features have emerged from watching users interact with the tool in certain ways, then productizing that behavior to make it more convenient. Are there patterns you’re seeing right now that you haven’t turned into a product yet but know you need to address soon?

Wu: We try to move from conviction to a product shift very quickly, ideally within a week. So there’s usually not a big lag between sensing user demand and shipping something.

But there’s a next level I’m thinking about: Claude anticipating what you want. For example, if you’re working on a voice feature, Claude could proactively monitor GitHub issues, Slack messages, and Twitter for bug reports or feature requests about voice. It could then build its own routine to track that feedback.

That’s actually not far off. I think it’s an imminent next step. Claude should decide to listen for feedback on your feature and then figure out how to notify you with its ideas. The engineer wouldn’t have to set up an automation. Claude would just think, “This is what you work on, so let me monitor it and suggest what you could do today.”

Ars: Developers using these tools are frustrated by limited compute. Usage caps are a real problem. Some tools already use what the IDE knows about the codebase , like which functions are referenced where , to be more efficient with tokens because they have structured data. Is that something you’re exploring, or do you have reasons not to go that route?

Wu: We do have plugins that feed semantic information into Claude Code. We offer a few LSPs that let you, for example, say, “I want to go to where this function is defined,” and it jumps directly to that spot without needing search.
