The DJI Neo 2 selfie drone is now launching across global markets, bringing its advanced features to consumers in Japan, Canada, the United Kingdom, and numerous other regions. However, prospective buyers in the United States will find the device unavailable through official channels, continuing a pattern seen with other recent DJI product releases. A company representative explained this strategic decision, stating, “DJI remains committed to the US market and serving our US-based customers. Like many global companies, we’ve had to adjust our market strategies as the local conditions and industry environment have evolved.”

This new model introduces several noteworthy improvements over its predecessor. A lidar-based obstacle avoidance system enhances safety by detecting and steering clear of potential crash hazards. The drone boasts an improved following speed capable of nearly 27 miles per hour, along with better performance in windy conditions. A novel gesture control system allows users to adjust the drone’s distance and position without needing a physical remote. For those who prefer traditional control, an optional antenna is available, though it is not required for the drone’s autonomous flight functions. Without this accessory, the Neo 2 weighs a mere 151 grams and offers a flight time of up to 19 minutes.

Camera performance receives a significant boost from an upgraded dual-axis gimbal, which provides superior stabilization for smoother video and sharper photos. A small screen on the front of the drone makes it simple to check the current flight mode at a glance.

Pricing for the drone varies by region. Its initial launch in China saw a starting price of 1,499 Chinese yuan, approximately $211. In Canada, the price is listed at $229 before taxes, though DJI clarifies this should not be seen as an indication of a future US price. European customers will find it starting at €239, while in the UK the price is £209 including taxes. Japanese pricing begins at ¥38,390, which is roughly $248.

While some US retailers might independently choose to stock the Neo 2, similar to what occurred with the Mavic 4 Pro, the situation regarding warranty coverage remains uncertain. DJI’s spokesperson did not confirm if warranties would be honored for units purchased from authorized US stores. The company advises that customers with potential warranty claims should “contact DJI Support to determine if their case qualifies for repair.”
