Asus has just unveiled a trio of cutting-edge OLED gaming monitors at Gamescom, headlined by the world’s first 720 Hz OLED gaming monitor. Designed for serious gamers, these displays push the boundaries of speed, brightness, and visual fidelity, offering tailored experiences across different price points and performance needs.
Two of the new models, the ROG Swift OLED PG27AQWP-W and ROG Strix OLED XG27AQWMG, feature Asus’s proprietary Tandem OLED technology. This innovation delivers a 15% boost in peak brightness, a 25% wider color volume, and a 60% longer panel lifespan compared to earlier WOLED screens. All three monitors also include a Neo Proximity Sensor, which detects when the user steps away and automatically switches to a black screen to protect against burn-in.
The flagship ROG Swift OLED PG27AQWP-W boasts a 26.5-inch screen with a native 1440p resolution at 540 Hz. For players who prioritize raw speed, it can also run at an astonishing 720 Hz when set to 720p. Additional highlights include a lightning-fast 0.03 ms gray-to-gray response time, VESA DisplayHDR 500 True Black certification, and 99.5% DCI-P3 color coverage. It comes equipped with DisplayPort 2.1a supporting UHBR20 for up to 80 Gbps bandwidth, HDMI 2.1 ports, and a distinctive semi-transparent rear panel that reveals its internal components.
Positioned as a more budget-friendly alternative, the ROG Strix OLED XG27AQWMG retains the same 26.5-inch 1440p OLED panel but caps the refresh rate at 280 Hz. It still offers the same impressive 0.03 ms response time, HDR 500 True Black compliance, and 99.5% DCI-P3 gamut as its premium sibling. Connectivity is slightly scaled back, with DisplayPort 1.4 (with DSC) instead of DisplayPort 2.1, though HDMI 2.1 and a USB hub are included.
Completing the lineup is the ROG Strix OLED XG27AQDMG Gen 2, an update to the popular previous model. It features a 26.5-inch WOLED display with 1440p resolution, 240 Hz refresh rate, and the same 0.03 ms response time. While it doesn’t incorporate Tandem OLED, it keeps the TrueBlack Glossy coating and is marketed toward both gamers and creative professionals. It supports VESA DisplayHDR 400 True Black, covers 99% of the DCI-P3 spectrum, offers true 10-bit color, and comes factory-calibrated with a Delta E < 2. Outputs include DisplayPort 1.4 (DSC), HDMI 2.1, and a USB hub.
Pricing and release dates for all three models have not yet been announced.
