One of the pioneering names in smart lighting, LIFX, has announced a significant expansion of its product ecosystem at CES, introducing a Matter-enabled smart mirror, its first US in-wall dimmer, and a more affordable line of bulbs and light strips. The company also confirmed plans to upgrade its existing product generation to support Matter-over-Thread via a software update later this year, providing greater flexibility for smart home integration.
The standout new product is the LIFX SuperColor mirror. This 36-by-22-inch fixture offers both front and backlighting with full-color effects, similar to the brand’s Lunar lamp. Designed for versatility, it can be mounted horizontally or vertically and supports either hardwired or plug-in installation. Unique features include dedicated Makeup Check and Anti-Fog modes. The mirror also integrates smart home control directly, featuring three configurable buttons that can command other connected devices. With Matter support, it works seamlessly with platforms like Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, and Google Home. While pricing is still to be finalized, a launch is scheduled for the second quarter of 2026.
Arriving in the same timeframe is the LIFX Smart Dimmer, priced at $30. This in-wall, paddle-style switch is designed to bridge the gap between traditional and smart lighting. It features four customizable buttons and a gradient light bar. Each button can be programmed with single, double, or long-press actions to control LIFX lights or activate broader smart home scenes through any compatible Matter platform. Critically, it can control not only standard dimmable bulbs but also Matter-compatible smart bulbs, eliminating the need to choose between a smart switch and dimmable color lighting. Installation requires a neutral wire, and it is compatible with three-way switch setups.
In a strategic move to compete more directly in the value segment, LIFX is launching its new Everyday line of smart lights. This range sits below the premium SuperColor series, maintaining the brand’s commitment to high 90 CRI color accuracy but with a lower RGB light output. The first product is the Everyday Bulb (A19), an 800-lumen, full-color and tunable white bulb with a color temperature range from 2,700 to 6,500 Kelvin. A two-pack is available now for $24. Later this month, a 20-foot Everyday Lightstrip with 24 individually addressable zones will launch for $39.99. Its controller includes a four-button remote that can trigger scenes on any Matter platform.
A key technical development underpinning these launches is LIFX’s transition toward Matter-over-Thread. All new and current-generation products support Matter-over-Wi-Fi at launch. However, a planned over-the-air update will later unlock the ability to switch the devices to use the Thread protocol, thanks to a dual-protocol chip inside. Thread is a low-power, mesh-networking protocol that forms a core part of the Matter standard.
Company leadership explains this dual-approach strategy as customer-centric. Mark Hollands, LIFX’s chief technology officer, notes that while Thread offers benefits like extended mesh coverage and reduced Wi-Fi network congestion, Wi-Fi remains the most universally accessible connectivity option. By offering both, LIFX allows customers to set up their devices immediately using existing home Wi-Fi, with the option to migrate to a Thread network in the future should they choose to build one. This flexibility is intended to simplify the initial purchase and setup experience while safeguarding the investment for evolving smart home infrastructures.
